Parma Lutheran Church’s “Safeguarding God’s Children (SGGC) Policy” is designed to protect the safety
and dignity of our children, adult volunteers, and staff through preliminary screening and continuous
vigilance.
The policy itself may just be words on paper, but it equips our congregation to become a safe haven in
which children and youth can learn and grow in their faith development and Christian education. This
policy provides guidelines for volunteers and staff with the gift of caring for children and youth, but also
for protecting them from false accusations.
The SGGC policy requires that adults responsible for supervising children and youth agree to successfully
pass a background check by an independent background investigative organization, sign and adhere to a
behavior covenant, and complete the SGGC training program.
Adults desiring to join this ministry are welcome to attend the next SGGC training session, which are
held periodically throughout the year. A list is maintained of those who have completed all aspects of
the SGGC policy, and only those individuals are allowed to be responsible for children and youth.
